KARACHI: Following the locked horns between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), coalition parties are to meet today at Bilawal House Karachi.

Federal Ministers Khawaja Saad Rafique and Ayaz Sadiq will take the instructions from the prime minister and will reach Karachi to meet the MQM leadership.

The meeting will scrutinize the situation on the local government (LG) polls in the port city and the parties will present their reservations on the matter.

Sources close to PPP said that the party believes the demand by MQM to increase the constituencies is just the delay tactic party has been playing.

It was also said that there has been pressure from the election commission to conduct the LG polls in the city as per the schedule and there has been no significant reason to delay the elections further.

Meanwhile, MQM has threatened PPP to separate from the coalition government and to hold protests against the ruling party in Sindh against their behavior in regard to the elections.

MQM has decided to protest against conducting Local Government elections in Karachi without fresh delimitations of constituencies. It has also raised serious concerns over the non-implementation of the agreement signed with the provincial government.

MQM leaders expressed their displeasure over the statement of Bilawal for holding the polls with delimitations. It has sought clarification of whether Bilawal’s remarks were his personal opinion or whether it was the party policy.
