Jamaica has formally put forth its nominee for the next Commonwealth Secretary General, according to Express UK. Queen Elizabeth is ready for the kingdom to break free from the British monarchy.

Kamina Johnson-Smith, who met Prince William and Kate on their recent Caribbean visit, revealed this week that she will run for the position against Baroness Scotland of Asthal.

The news comes only weeks after Jamaica declared its intention to cut relations with the queen during the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit in March.

“We are moving on,” the country’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness stated during the tour. He is currently anticipated to run for Commonwealth Secretary General in the 2018 elections.

PM Holness praised Johnson-Smith, adding she will “bring a lot of expertise to the job and is devoted to international public service.”
