According to news sources, the Queen Elizabeth position has changed for the first time in ten years. For the first time in at least ten years, certain events like the State Opening of Parliament that were previously deemed obligatory by “constitutional convention” have been removed. The Queen Elizabeth much-publicized mobility issues made it too difficult for her to attend in person this year. The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge jointly attended the State Opening of Parliament on her behalf.

As the Queen’s representative, the Prince now travels abroad, most recently to attend the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Queen is not anticipated to travel again after turning 96.
