Queen Elizabeth job continues to include the two essential components of ‘Head of State’ and ‘Head of Nation’.
According to news sources, the Queen Elizabeth position has changed for the first time in ten years. For the first time in at least ten years, certain events like the State Opening of Parliament that were previously deemed obligatory by “constitutional convention” have been removed. From the Queen’s “official duties” in the palace’s annual report.
The Sovereign Grant report, which Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, approved, states that the Queen Elizabeth job continues to include the two essential components of ‘Head of State’ and ‘Head of Nation’.
As Head of State, the “formal constitutional concept”, the Queen “must fulfil” specific duties. The State Opening of Parliament, the nomination of the Prime Minister, and making and receiving state visits were among the 13 items that were formerly listed.
The new version instead offers a more loose definition, saying that the Queen’s role “encompasses a range of parliamentary and diplomatic duties” and that she only “receives” other visiting heads of state.
The Queen Elizabeth much-publicized mobility issues made it too difficult for her to attend in person this year. The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge jointly attended the State Opening of Parliament on her behalf.
As the Queen’s representative, the Prince now travels abroad, most recently to attend the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Queen is not anticipated to travel again after turning 96.
