As his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II withdrew from the public eye, Catherine, who wed the now-heir to the kingdom Prince William in 2011, increased appearances.

Before getting married at London’s famed Westminster Abbey in 2011, she spent a brief time working as a buyer for high-street clothing retailer Jigsaw. For the occasion, she donned a lace-sleeved dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

William’s decision to wed a “commoner” after a live-in relationship stands in stark contrast to his father, the current King Charles III, who married aristocrat Diana Spencer in 1981 at the age of 20, despite the fact that he was 12 years her senior.

In contrast to Meghan, Kate hasn’t said much about her experiences becoming a member of the royal family since she wed Prince Harry in 2018.

Photographers followed Kate’s every step throughout the early stages of their relationship, bringing comparisons to how William’s mother was covered by the media when she passed away in 1997.

There were rumours that Carole Middleton used too many “posh” words and that William’s friends made fun of her mother’s previous occupation.
