In her Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, Meghan Markle discusses her brief but crucial relationship with Queen Elizabeth, the late grandmother of her husband Prince Harry. She describes how the monarch consoled her during her first significant royal duty.

Following her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan claimed this about her first royal engagement with the late Queen:  “I treated her as my husband’s grandma, and knowing that of course there has to be a completely different sense of propriety in public…”

“When we got into the car in between engagements she had a blanket and she put it over my knees and we were sitting in this car with this blanket and I thought ‘I recognise and respect and see that you’re the Queen, but in this moment I’m so grateful that there is a grandmother figure because that feels like family’,” Meghan added.

After saying, “And because I was so close with my grandmother,” the Duchess of Sussex continued, noting that she had cared for her own grandmother in her later years.

The fact that Prince Harry and Meghan only met the late Queen Elizabeth at her Platinum Jubilee celebrations months before her passing in September 2022 should be noted. They were conspicuously absent during her final months.
