After the release of Spare, concerns about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s royal titles have returned.

In his autobiography Spare, Prince Harry leveled a number of shocking accusations against the Royal Family when discussing his time working for the Firm and his three-year decision to leave. While Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announced their separation, they kept their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex while giving up their HRH rank. According to a recent poll, peoples are unanimous that Harry should lose his titles.

The late Queen Elizabeth II gave Harry and Meghan the title of duke of Sussex upon their marriage in 2018. Additionally, they were given the titles of Baron and Baroness of Kilkeel as well as Earl and Countess of Dumbarton.

Nile Gardiner, a British conservative columnist and former assistant to Margaret Thatcher, recently demanded on Twitter that Harry and Meghan be stripped of their titles. He stated: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do not deserve to carry royal titles.

“Their vicious campaign against the Royal Family is a betrayal of the British people. They have become the most unpopular and distrusted couple in the modern history of the British Monarchy.”

Conservative MP Bob Seely is planning to put forward a Private Member’s Bill which could strip Harry and Meghan of their titles by amending the 1917 Titles Deprivation Act.

Username uncivil servant commented: “More important than the titles he needs to be removed from the line of succession.”

Username AT61 wrote: “They need all titles and their line of succession removed. They should be plain Mr and Mrs Mountbatten -Windsor.”

Harry would be allowed to preserve his prince title as the son of the current king should the couple lose their royal titles. Meghan would then be entitled to use the title “Princess Henry.”

Some users, such as user account blueeyes27, felt that Harry’s children, Archie, age three, and Lilibet, age one, shouldn’t have royal titles. “Yes all titles should be stripped and no titles to the kids.”

Similarly, username sam the man wrote: “The only title they both should have is Mr and Mrs and their children should not be given titles also.”

According to the 1917 letter, Archie and Lilibet should be given HRH titles and have the right to be a prince and princess because they are the monarch’s grandchildren.

“Under the protocols laid down by George V in 1917, they should automatically be given HRHs, but it is up to the new monarch. This surely cannot happen now and not only because of a ‘slimmed down’ monarchy.”

Before the release of Spare, Harry was asked about giving up his dukedom during an interview with Anderson Cooper on CBS’s 60 Minutes. Harry responded: “What difference would that make?”
