Prince William chose not to have Prince Harry serve as his best man at his 2011 nuptials to Kate Middleton.

At the wedding, the Duke of Sussex served as a compere who later introduced the Prince of Wales’ “actual” best men.

Harry claims in his book “Spare” that he was pressured to accept a “bare-faced falsehood” because William “didn’t want me giving a best man’s speech.”

James Meade and Thomas Van Straubenzee, two of William’s friends, were the real best men.

In a later chapter of the book, Harry describes how his older brother was high on rum the night before they wed Kate Middleton.

Harry said to him: “’You smell of alcohol’ and offered him some mint sweets as he lowered the windows of the car, describing the smell of “the aftermath of last night’s rum” on his “tipsy” brother’s breath.”
