King Charles plans to achieve greater ‘reach’ at coronation than Queen Elizabeth
Barely 2,000 people would attend King Charles’ coronation on May 6, but it would have far more impact than his mother, Queen Elizabeth.
Inviting foreign monarchs is also something King Charles intends to do, breaking with a long-standing royal custom.
Dr Ed Owens, a historian and royal commentator, believes that technical advancements in mass media over the last seven decades will have an influence on the approaching event.
In an interview he stated, “In terms of the reach of this event, it’s going to be much greater than Elizabeth II’s coronation.
He said, “It’s going to play to a world audience via lots of different media channels, notably international broadcasters but also the internet.”
Dr. Owens believes that social media will provide a “new dimension” to the coronation, allowing people to experience it differently than watchers at the Queen’s coronation.
He added: “And what social media also enables, is for viewers of this event to participate as they watch, to engage with one another, to share their thoughts on the unfolding ceremony.
It is unclear whether Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer will attend.
