Prince Harry wants to show Meghan Markle isn’t a pain in the neck
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will “definitely” attend King Charles III’s Coronation out of fear of becoming “outsiders”, according to a royal commentator.
As the royal schism deepens, Richard Fitzwilliams said the couple has taken steps to provide a “olive branch” to the Firm.
According to the commentator, Meghan and Harry will need to maintain their status as Royal Family figures to ensure a steady flow of high-paying contracts, which they risk jeopardising by continuing to alienate themselves from the Firm.
“My own bet is that they will definitely attend the Coronation,” he told Mark Longhurst.
“They are members of the Royal Family. They have contacts with Netflix, Spotify and Random House because of this.
“If they were not to attend, they would be seen as outsiders. I think that whatever the feelings are individually, that’s not a future they could possibly contemplate.”
The plans for King Charles’ coronation have sparked speculation, with Meghan and Harry’s possible absence being a major talking point.
On Sunday, a spokesperson for Harry revealed that the couple has received an invitation to the event but has yet to confirm whether or not they will attend.
The couple’s damning revelations about the King, Harry’s elder brother Prince William, and other royals in his recent memoir, a Netflix documentary, and a series of TV interviews have overshadowed preparations.
“I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” a spokesperson for Harry said.
“An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”
The couple have announced their daughter, Lilibet, has been christened with the ‘Princess’ title, a move Richard Fitzwillams dubbed as “ironic”.
