Sophie Molineux announces to take a break from cricket to focus on her mental health.

The cricketer will take an indefinite leave from the sport, with the Renegades confirming she will miss the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) match against the Melbourne Stars.

Molineux had a standout 2019, making her Test debut in Australia’s victorious Ashes campaign in England.

She took 4/95 and scored 41 and 21 in a pretty impressive debut from the all-rounder.

Molineux has also had a good start to WBBL05, including an innings of 3/28 against the Thunder in late October.

Tim Coyle, the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades WBBL side, confirmed that club and player worked together in making the decision.

“Sophie knows her teammates and the Renegades coaches and support staff are always there for her,” Coyle said in a statement.

Molineux is the fourth Victorian player in recent times to take a break from the game for mental health issues.

Glenn Maxwell announced he would take a break during the Australia v Sri Lanka T20 series.

Nic Maddinson stepped away from the Australia A match against Pakistan to work on his own mental health problems.

Will Pucovski became the third player when he requested not to be considered for selection in the Test series against Pakistan.
