Lewis Hamilton, the Formula 1 Driver is now named as the richest sportsperson in the United Kingdom with a net worth of 224 million pounds.

According to the latest rich list Hamilton, who signed a new contract with Mercedes in 2018 worth up to 40 million pounds a year, saw his net worth rise by 37 million pounds over the last year. Rory McIlroy, who returned to the top of golf’s world rankings in February for the first time since 2015, is the second other sportsperson to feature on the main Rich List with a net worth of 170 million pounds.

Wales soccer player Gareth Bale, who earns 350,000 pounds per week after tax at Real Madrid, has a net worth of 114 million pounds and is the richest sportsperson aged 30 or under.

In February this year, Lewis Hamilton was also the winner of Laureus Sportsman of the year. Argentine Football Star Leo Messi and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton shared Laureus World Sportsman of the year award.

Gymnastics star Simone Biles named the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year for the third time.

Biles won five gold medals, including a record fifth all-around title, at the 2019 world championships in Stuttgart.

That made her the most decorated gymnast ever at worlds with 25 medals.

“There cannot be many sportsmen or women who dominate their sports the way she has in gymnastics,” five-time Olympic gold medalist Nadia Comaneci said. “We have to keep remembering that she is just 22, and she is likely to win another stack of gold medals in the Tokyo Olympics.”
