The Cricket Association of Bengal secretary and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly has tested positive for Covid-19. The laboratory has recommended a “repeat sample” for confirmation.

Snehasish, a former Bengal first-class player, has been admitted to the hospital after his COVID-19 report came positive.

“He was suffering from fever for the last few days and his test report came positive today. He’s been admitted to Belle Vue Hospital,” a CAB official said.

“The reports arrived late in the evening. As per health protocols, even Sourav will have to be in-home quarantine for a stipulated period,” a source close to the BCCI President added.

Snehasish had shifted to their ancestral house, where Sourav is based, in Behala after his wife and in-laws at his Mominpur residence tested positive for the deadly virus.

However, the former India captain was unavailable for a comment on the development.

Sourav had spoken about how life around him has changed, making people more vulnerable.

“My brother visits our factories every day and he is more at risk,” he had said.

Last month, when the news of Snehasish’s coronavirus made rounds, he had issued a statement, clarifying that he didn’t have the illness.

“I am perfectly healthy and am doing office every day. The news doing rounds about my illness is baseless and is not expected in these trying times,” Snehasish had said through a statement released by the CAB on June 20.

The statement added: “Hope that after this, it will firmly put a lid on such untrue sensational news that are doing rounds.”
