Following a cricket break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Edgbaston and The Kia Oval are all set to host a crowd for the first time.

On July 26 and 27, the Kia Oval will host a friendly match between Surrey and Middlesex, while on July 27, Edgbaston will host a second friendly match between Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

A maximum of 1,000 spectators per day will be allowed for the pilot. For the two-day game, the Kia Oval will host supporters while Edgbaston will only host supporters on the second day.

It should be noted here that by late July or early August, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) intends to get spectators into the stadiums.

The sports minister of the United Kingdom ( UK) is delighted to see the crowd back after a long break. He said,

“It’s brilliant news that supporters will be welcomed back to Edgbaston for Warwickshire v Worcestershire as part of the pilot series.”

He concluded by saying,

“Many of us have felt the void of being unable to go and watch live cricket during the lockdown, so I am pleased that we are moving forward with our plan to help sports venues reopen their doors to fans.”
