Chinese sponsors to withdraw from IPL

According to reports, The Chinese sponsors are all set to withdraw from the Indian Premier League, also known as the world’s richest tournament, due to the border clash between Indian and Chinese armies.

After the clash between the two countries, BCCI had said that it would review its IPL sponsor deals. On Sunday, BCCI faced a massive backlash from the people when it announced that VIVO, a Chinese mobile company, would remain the biggest sponsor for the tournament.

The cultural arm of the influential Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) threatened a boycott from the IPL until and unless they would drop all the Chinese sponsors.

In a statement SJM said,

“We want to urge the IPL organizers to reconsider their stand on sponsorship by Chinese companies.”

The statement added,

“Please remember the nation’s pride and security above all.”

Chinese officials have expressed concern and warned of reprisals over steps already taken in India that are beginning to remove their companies from the giant 1.3 billion-strong sector. The BCCI was in talks for this year with Indian companies about joining in but planned to make less than the $60 million that it would get from Vivo.

It should be mentioned here that the long-delayed tournament Indian Premier League will begin from September 19.
