Just minutes after Mahindra Sindh Dhoni, India’s left-handed batsman Suresh Raina has also announced his retirement.

Raina took to Instagram and confirmed his decision. “It was nothing but lovely playing with you, MS Dhoni. With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India.”

The batsman made his debut at the age of 18 against Sri Lanka in 2005. He last played for India in July 2018 and had failed to make it to the squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup.

He played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20 internationals, scoring 7,988 runs. Sureshwas part of the team that won the 2011 ICC World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) posted a tweet, paying tribute to the retired pair that share a close bond both on and off the pitch.

Noting down a list of their joint achievements in the 50-over format, ICC tweeted “What a duo!”

However, tributes and thank-you messages have poured in on social media by fans and netizens for both Dhoni and Raina announced their retirements.
