Serbian Tennis Icon Novak Djokovic continued his flawless season on Monday night at the US Open, moving to 24-0 in 2020 with a speedy 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 victory against Damir Dzumhur.

Djokovic defeated Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia-Herzegovina 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 under floodlights at an empty Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Djokovic after his match said, “I was pleased to close out the second set and then stepped it up by a couple of levels.”

He is looking to close the gap on Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the race for the all-time men’s singles Grand Slam record.

Djokovic currently has 17, behind Nadal on 19 and Federer on 20.

Awaiting the three-time US Open champion (2011, 2015, 2018) in the next round is British tennis player Kyle Edmund, who defeated Alexander Bublik of Russia 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-0. Djokovic holds a 5-1 over Edmund in their ATP Head2Head, including a fourth-round win at the 2016 US Open.

Meanwhile, 2018 US Open champion Naomi Osaka enjoyed a triumphant return to Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday night with a three-set win over countrywoman Misaki Doi.

Naomi Osaka closed out the first day of the 2020 US Open with a decisive win over Misaki Doi, advancing, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to edge into the second round.
