According to the New Zealand health authorities, two of the three cases that returned with positive PCR on day 6 of the previous test are now confirmed as “historical cases” and not infectious.

The news brought some comfort to the Pakistani squad, which is eagerly awaiting a permit to begin training in New Zealand.

“Two members of the Pakistan men’s cricket team we reported yesterday as under investigation tested positive at day 6 routine testing. These people are confirmed as having historical infections, and will be counted in our total as they have not been counted overseas,” said a spokesperson of the New Zealand health ministry.

“Decisions around exemptions from managed isolation requirements which would allow the team to train are still under consideration,” the spokesperson said.

The decision will likely be made on Friday after the results of 9th-day testing which will be conducted on Thursday.

It is pertinent to mention here that six members of the Pakistan cricket team who traveled to New Zealand had tested positive for the coronavirus and another member also tested corona positive on the second testing.

Pakistan and New Zealand are to play a three-match T20I series starting December 18. The two-Test series will begin on Boxing Day (December 26).
