Rishabh Pant of India on Tuesday became the fastest Indian wicket-keeper batsman to score 1,000 Test runs.

Pant reached the landmark during the final day of the fourth Test against Australia in Brisbane. He started the match with 976 runs, and he scored 23 runs in the first innings of the match.

Pant got to the milestone in his 27th inning thereby breaking former India captain MS Dhoni’s record of 32 innings.

The Batsman came on to the crease at No. 5, ahead of Mayank Agarwal, as India kept themselves in the hunt to chase down the 328-run target set by Australia.

With the series level at 1-1, India need only a draw in Brisbane to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, two years after their breakthrough 2-1 win in the 2018/19 series Down Under.

Pant, who made his Test debut in 2018 against England, is the only Indian wicket-keeper batsman to hit centuries in both England and Australia.

He averages over 40 in Test cricket with two centuries and three half-centuries.

Earlier today, Shubman Gill scored a persistent 91 as India lost just one wicket in the first session and two more in the second.
