The quest to reach a ninth Australian Open final of the American Tennis Veteran Serena Williams ended on Thursday after 6-3, 6-4 defeat in the semifinals by the Japanese Naomi Osaka. Serena Williams, 39, broke early for a 2-0 lead before Osaka reeled off five straight games to leave her shell-shocked.

In her post-match press conference she called her defeat to Naomi Osaka “a big error day”.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion said that the, “The difference today was errors. I made so many errors. Honestly, it was opportunities where I could have won. I could have been up 5-0. It was a big error day for me.”

Recalling her mistakes she made during the match, tears began to flow as Williams told reporters: “I don’t know. I’m done,” and then she walks out.

After a spectacular win against the American Tennis Veteran, Naomi Osaka will now face Jennifer Brady in Saturday’s final.

Naomi Osaka in her statement said, “It’s an incredible achievement. I think it will be a really tough match, obviously. She’s won a few Grand Slams. We had a tough match at the U.S. Open in the semifinals.”

She added that, “I think she even said that it was one of her top matches, which was a little bit unfortunate for me at the time. I think it will be a really good match and I hope you gusy [the fans] can come out and enjoy it.”
