Wishes pour in as Arshad shines in javelin throw’s qualifying round

Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem topped his group in the qualifying round with a massive throw of 85.16 metres. Overall, he remained just behind India’s Neeraj Chopra (86.65) and Germany’s Johannes Vetter (85.64).

Arshad can outdo himself in the final round as his personal best is 86.29 metres, which he threw in South Asian Games in Nepal in 2019 that had earned him a gold medal.

On Wednesday, as soon as the Pakistani javelin thrower attempted his throw and topped his group, Twitter erupted with messages of appreciation for the young athlete.

Government of Pakistan’s official Twitter account hailed his effort and wrote, “Arshad Nadeem you have made us all proud.”

US Embassy Islamabad also took to Twitter to congratulate him and wished him luck for the final round.

Ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Member of National Assembly applauded the 24-year-old’s journey from Mian Chunnu to Tokyo and highlighted that grit was written all over his face.

Pakistan’s prominent wrestler Inam Butt stated, “Pakistan Olympics medal se bus ek throw door hai [Pakistan is just one throw away from an Olympics medal].”

Prolific karateka Kulsoom Hazara also lauded her countryman’s performance and wished him luck for the final.

Pakistan’s other Tokyo Olympics hero weightlifter Talha Talib wrote, “We are praying for you brother, InshaAllah we will get medal.”

The final round of javelin throw will take place on August 6 on Saturday.
