After a long wait finally Pakistan got its first-ever gold medal as Haider Ali, the famous discus thrower has topped the scoreboard at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Haider Ali won the gold medal for the fifth time with a throw of 55.26. Ukraine’s Mykola Zhabnyak was second with a throw of 52.43 meters and won the silver medal, while Brazil’s Victor Teixeira Souza de Silva won the bronze medal with a throw of 51.86 meters.

Haider Ali is the first Pakistani to win a gold medal in the current Paralympics. He had earlier won two Paralympic medals for Pakistan.

Haider Ali hails from Gujranwala. He has a limb-length discrepancy by birth, his right leg is two inches thinner and one inch shorter than his left leg.

The US Embassy in Islamabad has congratulated Pakistani para-athlete, Haider Ali, on winning the gold medal.

The embassy wrote in an official Twitter account, “Congratulations to Haider Ali for winning the first-ever Paralympic gold medal for Pakistan! Haider is used to creating history having secured Pakistani’s 1st Paralympic games medal (Silver) in 2008. Well done!”
