Valentino Rossi, who retired from MotoGP at the end of the 2021 season, test drove an Audi in Spain with the aim of competing in endurance races, the WRT team said on Thursday.

“From Tuesday to Thursday of this week, the Belgian team tested at the Ricardo Tormo circuit near Valencia with Audi Sport,” the team announced.

“Among those who took to the track today was Valentino Rossi, with the aim of assessing the possibilities for future cooperation between the nine-time world motorcycle champion and the reigning GT World Challenge Europe champion team.”

The 42-year-old Italian made his last MotoGP appearance in Valencia on November 14.

He is expected to start in 2022 in the GT3 class and is eventually aiming for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the premier LMP2 or Hypercar class.
