JOHANNESBURG: Bangladesh were reduced to 194 for nine in the second one-day international against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, with fast bowler Kagiso Rabada taking five for 39.

After Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Wayne Parnell ripped through Bangladesh’s top order, Afif Hossain hit 72 to spearhead the recovery.

Bangladesh, who won the opening encounter by 38 runs in Centurion on Friday, were reduced to 34 for five after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Deliveries that bounced hard off the ground claimed four of the first five wickets.

An injury to Parnell, who departed the field with a hamstring ailment five balls into his third over, damaged South Africa’s chances.

Only five bowlers have been selected by South Africa. For much of the innings, Bavuma had to rely on his slow medium-pacers and the spin of Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj, as Rabada had already bowled seven of his 10 overs in his opening stint of three for 25.

With the threat of speed removed, the left-handed Afif batted brilliantly, sharing partnerships of 60 and 86 with Mahmudullah (25) and Mehidy Hasan, respectively (38). Before falling to Rabada late in the innings, Afif, 22, smashed nine fours in a 107-ball innings.
