The England and Wales Cricket Board has appointed former Pakistan Test cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman as a batting scout.

Zaman, who formerly worked as a fielding coach at the National High Performance Centre (NHPC), will now travel to different counties in search of young talent who could eventually play for England’s senior teams.

“I am extremely grateful that the ECB saw me in a different light and thought I could do a fantastic job for them,” he said.

“I am currently working as an ECB Level 4 Coach and am the highest qualified Pakistan Test cricketer. I will also be the first Pakistani to hold the position of ECB Batting Scout,” he added.

Atiq-uz-Zaman, who played one Test and three One-Day Internationals for Pakistan, resigned from his position at the NHPC after the PCB reportedly declined his desire for a job with the Pakistan men’s squad.
