CENTURION: South Africa won the toss and opted to field first against Bangladesh in the first ODI at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.

Due to illness, South Africa was missing wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock.

“Generally it’s a good wicket and at night it tends to skid on a bit,” Temba Bavuma, the South African captain, stated. In Centurion, teams batting second have an excellent record in day-night matches.

“The stats say it’s better to chase,” said Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal. “We would have liked to bowl.”

Tamim, on the other hand, expressed confidence in a team that included all-rounders as well as some promising fast bowlers.
