Burnley’s first game without Sean Dyche ended in a 1-1 draw at West Ham on Sunday, on a day when the Clarets lost midfielder Ashley Westwood to a terrible injury.

In the first half, Westwood’s leg crumbled beneath him during a routine confrontation with West Ham’s Nikola Vlasic, and he was stretchered off the field with oxygen.

Vlasic was also in tears as he realised the severity of the injury, which forced him to sit out for a long time.

When the game resumed, Wout Weghorst scored a close-range header off a corner to put Burnley ahead.

The visitors, on the other hand, were forced to rue a missed penalty by Maxwel Cornet just before half-time, as the Ivorian dragged his shot wide.

The Europa League is West Ham’s top objective for the rest of the season, with David Moyes’ side moving to the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Lyon in midweek.
