Burnley’s first game without Sean Dyche ended in a 1-1 draw at West Ham on Sunday, on a day when the Clarets lost midfielder Ashley Westwood to a terrible injury.

In the first half, Westwood’s leg crumbled beneath him during a routine confrontation with West Ham’s Nikola Vlasic, and he was stretchered off the field with oxygen.

Vlasic was also in tears as he realised the severity of the injury, which forced him to sit out for a long time.

When the game resumed, Wout Weghorst scored a close-range header off a corner to put Burnley ahead.

The visitors, on the other hand, were forced to rue a missed penalty by Maxwel Cornet just before half-time, as the Ivorian dragged his shot wide.

The Europa League is West Ham’s top objective for the rest of the season, with David Moyes’ side moving to the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Lyon in midweek.

The Hammers showed signs of a European hangover, but Tomas Soucek pushed Manuel Lanzini’s free-kick home 16 minutes from time to preserve a point.

Prior to his dismissal on Friday, Dyche had been the Premier League’s longest-serving manager, with Burnley’s six-year tenure in the top division in jeopardy.

A point lowers the margin to safety to three points, although Everton, who are in 17th position, have a game in hand and might expand their lead.

Newcastle’s relegation fears have vanished owing to the club’s first transfer window under the Saudi sovereign wealth fund’s ownership.

Bruno Guimaraes, their most expensive January addition, scored twice in a 2-1 victory over Leicester at St. James’ Park.

Leicester is also focused on European play, having advanced to the semifinals of the Europa Conference League last week.

However, Ademola Lookman finished off a well-worked corner to give the Foxes the lead.

At the other end, Guimaraes bundled in a corner to draw the game level, and the goal was upheld after a VAR review.

After excellent movement down the left flank from Joe Willock, the Brazilian headed home the game’s winner with nearly the last touch of the game.

Newcastle is now in 14th place, while Leicester is still in ninth place.
