Ralf Rangnick, the manager of Manchester United, has been named coach of Austria’s national team, according to the federation, but he will remain at the club as a consultant.

Rangnick joined United as an interim manager in November of last year and will transition to an advisory role once Ajax coach Erik ten Hag takes over as permanent manager.

United announced in a statement that the 63-year-old German “will combine the job with his consultant function at Old Trafford as anticipated.”

Rangnick was awarded a two-year contract by the Austrian federation, which will be extended to four years if he qualifies for the 2024 European Championship.

“We are delighted that we have been able to acquire an outstanding expert in international football in Ralf Rangnick,” stated Austrian federation president Gerhard Milletich.

United’s already poor chances of finishing in the Premier League’s top four and qualifying for the Champions League were further harmed by a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Thursday.
