After a heated dispute in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, Scotland’s George Munsey and Oman’s Ayaan Khan were found guilty of violating the ICC Code of Conduct.

Khan and Munsey exchanged words in the middle after dismissing Munsey in the 31st over during Scotland’s successful chase of 226, before Munsey made contact with the Oman all-rounder, resulting in an additional altercation.

Khan and Munsey were deemed to have broken Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct as a result of the incident and were fined 15 and 25% of their match fees, respectively.

Khan was found to have broken Article 2.5 of the Code, which prohibits “using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal.”

While Munsey was found to have broken Article 2.12, which prohibits “using inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person (including a spectator).”

A demerit point has also been added to the two players’ disciplinary records. It’s Khan’s first offence, while it’s the Scottish left-hander’s second.

If a player accumulates four or more demerit points in a 24-month period, they are converted to suspension points, which results in the player’s exclusion from international competition.

Two suspension points entail a player’s suspension from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, whichever comes first.

The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Akbar Ali and Rashid Riaz, as well as third umpire Buddhi Pradhan.

In order to avoid a formal hearing, the two admitted to the offences and accepted the penalties.
