Paris Saint-Germain won the Ligue 1 title with a sensational long-range goal from Lionel Messi.

The Parisians knew a win against RC Lens would give them a record-tying 10th title, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side stumbled to a 1-1 draw.

Even though Messi’s curling effort from outside the box was cancelled out by Corentin Jean’s effort, the supporters were less than happy with the club following an uninspiring season.

PSG’s elimination from the Champions League this season, after a stunning round-of-16 loss to Real Madrid, was a source of frustration for many.

At halftime on Saturday, some fans booed their team before fleeing the stadium with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

According to reports, the stadium was mostly empty just 10 minutes after the final whistle, with players opting out of the traditional lap of honor after winning the championship.

“I’m ecstatic to have won another trophy for the club, and to have created history by becoming the club’s 10th champion.” Pochettino stated after the game.

“It’s incredibly significant for everyone and for the club.” Pochettino has sealed the title with four games remaining.

“It’s never easy to come back from a major setback in the Champions League, but the players were really professional and fought hard to win the league.”

“I believe it is critical for the club to add another title. We’re overjoyed, and we need to give the title some weight”, he added.

PSG has won eight of the last ten French league titles, tying St-Etienne for the most titles in league history.

However, for PSG fans who are still waiting for the club’s first European trophy, the season has been difficult.

Messi’s arrival at the start of the season promised so much, but the 34-year-old has struggled to replicate the dazzling form he shown in Barcelona for so long.

Despite the team’s domestic triumph, there will be worries about manager Pochettino’s future at the club, as he works to restore relationships with many of the fans.
