Mignon du Preez, a South African batter, has declared her retirement from ODIs and Tests with immediate effect.

She stated she made the choice because she needed to focus more on the game’s shortest format and spend more time with her family.

“I’ve been wonderfully fortunate to play in four ICC ODI World Cups to date,” du Preez said in a statement released by CSA. “These have been some of my most treasured memories in life. I feel South African women’s cricket is in a very healthy state, and the time is right to step away and allow the next generation of exciting cricketers to continue to grow this beautiful game of ours.”

In a career that began in 2007, du Preez played a lone Test – against India in 2014, when she hit 102 in a losing cause – and 154 One-Day Internationals, in which she amassed 3760 runs.

From 2011 to 2016, the 32-year-old captained her country in 46 One-Day Internationals, with South Africa winning 24 of them.

“I would like to take a moment to thank everyone at Cricket South Africa and the Board for their continuous support during my ODI career,” she said. “I am extremely grateful for the honor to have represented my country in 154 ODI games and also for the opportunity to have captained my country at the highest level.”

South Africa fell to England in the semi-finals of the recently ended women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand, and du Preez’s ODI career is now over.

She was also named Player of the Match in a must-win match against India when her innings of 52* at No. 5 kept her team together throughout a tight chase of 275 runs, which they eventually achieved off the final ball.

South Africa will play a T20I in England in July, as part of a tour that includes a Test and three ODIs before the three T20Is.
