Stingley, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 190 pounds, was named All-America in 2019 and 2020, but he missed the whole 2021 season due to a season-ending foot injury in September. In February, he did not participate in any drills at the NFL scouting combine, but he did work out at LSU’s pro day earlier this month.

Nelson, who is in his sixth year in the NFL, joined the team earlier this month. Johnson, a second-round pick in 2019, returned to the position after playing safety in 2021. For the first time in his NFL career, King played outside last season.

Stingley is the fourth cornerback to be taken with the No. 3 pick in the common draught era (since 1967), tying for the highest choice ever utilised on the position.

The Texans have won four games in back-to-back seasons. In 2021, they finished 4-13 under coach David Culley, who was sacked after just one season and replaced by Smith, who had previously worked as Culley’s defensive coordinator.

In the first two rounds, the Texans have a tendency of selecting largely defensive players. Since 2004, only nine of Houston’s 29 first- or second-round picks have been offensive players. The Texans selected future All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson with the No. 3 pick the last time they had it.
