New Zealand captain scored an unbeaten 140 against Netherlands on his birthday in the 2nd ODI. He broke the record of the highest individual score in an ODI on a birthday. The record was previously held by legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Kiwis defeated Netherlands by 118 runs and took the series defining 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Tom Latham laid foundation of the victory, as New Zealand at one point were in precarious position at 89/6 within 23 overs. However, Latham played the ultimate captain’s knock, his 123-ball knock brought hosts back in the game and took them to a heavy total of 264/9.

It was Tom Latham’s career-best score in ODI cricket, and scoring that to break Sachin’s record is a great feat itself. Tendulkar played an innings of 134 runs on his birthday in 1998. Another Kiwi batter Ross Taylor is at number three in the list of players who have scored a big ODI score on their birthday, having made 131 runs in the year 2011.
