After being found guilty of sexual abuse, Celta Vigo striker Santi Mina was sentenced to four years in prison.

Mina, 26, plans to appeal against the decision.

After being suspected of being an accomplice, David Goldar, a player for Spanish second-tier side Ibiza, was declared not guilty.

Mina was accused of raping a woman in a camper van with Goldar in 2017. Goldar, according to her lawyer, did nothing to prevent Mina from raping her.

According to Mina and Goldar, the woman gave her assent to their sexual interactions.

Mina was also absolved of a charge of sexual aggression, which is linked to intimidation or violence against the victim.

The striker was with Valencia at the moment, but in 2019 he returned to his boyhood club Celta.

Celta have pulled Mina from the squad pending the outcome of the appeals process, as well as disciplinary actions against the former Spain Under-21 international.

The lower court’s decision can be challenged before Spain’s Supreme Court.

Mina was sentenced to eight years in jail by the state prosecutor, while the victim’s counsel requested nine and a half years.

Mina has appeared in over 150 games for Celta in two periods with the club, scoring 11 goals in 40 games this season.
