Crawley Town FC manager John Yems resignes

Crawley Town FC manager John Yems has resigned, the League Two club announced on Friday, following claims of employing discriminatory language and behavior toward players.
Preston Johnson, the club’s co-chairman, said in a statement on Friday, “We’re looking forward to the next age of Crawley Town Football Club.”
“We have the opportunity to build on the club’s almost 125-year tradition and move it to the next level. We’re excited to work with our players and supporters to create a team.”
The English Football Association had previously told that it was looking into the claims leveled against Yems. The FA stated on Friday that their position remains unchanged.
The club declared in April that Yems had been suspended pending an inquiry, adding that any form of racism or prejudice would not be permitted.
“Serious and significant allegations have been made to Crawley Town Football Club that first team manager John Yems used discriminatory language and actions toward our players,” the club announced in a statement on April 23.
“We are taking these allegations seriously and have suspended him indefinitely while we investigate and consider further sanctions.”
“Let us be clear: Crawley Town Football Club stands by our players, employees, and fans, and we will never condone any form of racism or prejudice.”
“I want to be clear, these are claims,” Tony Burnett, CEO of the equality and inclusion organization Kick It Out, stated. Nonetheless, the charges are quite alarming.
“If football is to progress past events like these, everyone who encounters discrimination should be able to report it. We need people to feel comfortable in the knowledge that their complaints will be treated seriously and that they will have advocates in the wider football community.”
Crawley Town FC is currently in 12th place in League Two, and their next match is against Oldham Athletic on May 7.
The club announced that the hunt for a new manager will begin immediately, with assistant manager Lewis Young serving as interim manager for the rest of the season.
