Google search engine’s Doodle artwork for today honors the achievements of Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, an Indian wrestler known as ‘The Great Gama’ in the early twentieth century.

Google Doodle, created by artist Vrinda Zaveri, also honors the wrestler’s importance and depiction in Indian culture.

Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt was widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, earning the nickname “The Great Gama” after going undefeated in international competition.

Gama, who was born in the Punjabi town of Jabbowal in the Amritsar region, won numerous titles during his career, including the Indian versions of the World Heavyweight Championship (1910) and the World Wrestling Championship (1927).

Gama Pehlwan has been a household name in India for decades and is frequently used to compliment someone’s power.

According to the Google Doodle blog, Gama Pehlwan’s training program at the age of ten included 500 lunges and 500 pushups.

He began wrestling when he was 15 years old, and Indian publications quickly lauded him as a national hero and global champion.

The wrestler, a Kashmiri Muslim, is also regarded as a hero for saving the lives of numerous Hindus during India’s division in 1947, which saw the worst religious violence since independence.

Gama Pehlwan lived the rest of his life in Lahore, which became part of Pakistan following the partition in 1947.

During his tour to India, the Prince of Wales presented Gama Pehlwan with a silver mace to honor the famous wrestler.
