Joelle King of New Zealand has moved to the quarter-finals of the El Gouna International for the first time since 2019 after a great performance against Olivia Fiechter of the United States.

World No. 5 King was coming off a sad third round elimination at the World Championships a fortnight ago, but she was much improved this time around as she battled to an 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 triumph to reach the last eight.

In the next round, King will face either world No 3 Hania El Hammamy or Malaysian Rachel Arnold.

Paul Coll, a fellow New Zealander, will face Egypt’s Tarek Momen in the quarterfinals tomorrow morning.
