KPL 2022: Will Virat Kohli feature in second edition of tournament?

Arif Malik, the president of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL), and Rashid Latif, the former Pakistan wicketkeeper and Director of Operations, have both expressed interest in inviting Virat Kohli to play in the tournament’s second edition.

Latif was recently hired as the KPL’s Director of Cricket Operations, with the goal of raising the league’s standards.

“We should send an invitation [to Virat Kohli] but the decision to play lies with the player,” said Latif while in communication with the local media group.

While addressing the invitation to Kohli, Latif shared his opinion that if Kohli does not wants to take part in the tournament as a player, he will. be most welcomed as the chief guest.

“It is up to Virat Kohli whether he wants to be a part of the second edition of Kashmir Premier League as a player or as a chief guest,” said the Malik.

While answering a question regarding relations with different cricket boards, Latif added, “I also advised [Najam] Sethi to send invitations to all cricket boards including BCCI for PSL.”

In the inaugural edition of the KPL, South African batter Herschelle Gibbs was the only overseas player. He later pointed out that BCCI in preventing him and other players to take part in the tournament.

Talking about the importance of foreign players in the league, Latif said, “If we get good resources, we will try to put it to good use and organize a good tournament. We want people in Pakistan and outside Pakistan to enjoy the league.”

The second edition of the tournament is set to kick off on August 1 with the final scheduled on Pakistan’s Independence Day, i.e. August 14.
