During Monday night’s game against Lazio, Juventus fans said their goodbyes to captain Giorgio Chiellini and forward Paolo Dybala – but the visitors’ last-gasp equalizer wrecked the farewell party in Turin.

Chiellini announced his departure from Juventus this summer after 17 years with the club, with MLS in the United States a possible destination.

In the 17th minute, the center-back was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt, who took off the captain’s armband and handed it to Dybala.

Dusan Vlahovic has already opened the scoring after lvaro Morata’s assist.

While Chiellini shook hands with supporters and blew kisses to the crowd, Morata scored to put Juve in command of their final home game of the season.

While Juventus were already secured fourth place, the visitors were hoping to clinch a Europa League spot before the final round of games – and they did so soon after halftime, thanks to an own goal from Alex Sandro.

With the hosts still leading, Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri substituted Dybala with 12 minutes remaining, giving him his final applause before departing the club.

After exiting the Allianz Stadium pitch, the Argentina attacker, who joined the club in 2015, was visibly upset.

Dybala’s contract with Juventus expires this summer, and he announced on Twitter on Sunday that this would be his farewell match for the club.

“It’s hard to believe, but tomorrow will be my last match with this shirt,” he wrote.

There was still time for a late twist, as Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored with the game’s essentially final kick, securing a top-six finish.

Maurizio Sarri’s side has moved four points clear of Fiorentina, who lost 4-1 to Sampdoria in the other encounter on Monday. In the season’s last round, La Viola will face Juve on Sunday.

After the game, Allegri told, “Tonight was a great evening, full of emotions.”

“A Chiellini and Dybala evening.” A few movies of Chiellini should be given to our training facility to demonstrate how he works.”

“For seven years, Dybala was a key player,” the manager added.

“The fans paid him a fitting homage. It would have been fantastic for them to conclude with a win, but tonight’s game represents our entire year. We need to get back into the habit of winning.”
