According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu will sign with the Saints in the coming days.

Prior to the NFL draft, the impetus for a deal between New Orleans and the two-time All-Pro safety grew, and the contract was signed as expected on Monday.

Mathieu first visited New Orleans in April, followed by a trip to Philadelphia. After failing to strike an agreement with any of the two teams, it was unclear where Mathieu would play in 2022.

Kansas City was rumored to be interested in re-signing Pro Bowl safety Tyrann Mathieu, but the team decided against it after signing safety Justin Reid to a deal earlier in free agency.

The soon-to-be 30-year-old Mathieu, who is tied for seventh in the NFL with 13 interceptions over the last three seasons with the Chiefs, has plenty left in the tank.

In his nine seasons in the NFL, he has 26 interceptions, three of which have been returned for touchdowns.
