Manchester City extended their Premier League advantage over Liverpool to one point with four games remaining after defeating Leeds 4-0 on Saturday, while Norwich were relegated following a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

Liverpool had earlier climbed to the top of the standings with a 1-0 win over Newcastle, thanks to a first-half strike from Naby Keita.

With difficult away trips sandwiched between both legs of their Champions League semi-finals, both championship contenders made five changes.

City manager Pep Guardiola could afford the luxury of not even calling on Kevin De Bruyne because the champions controlled their own destiny in the title chase.

On 13 minutes, Rodri headed home Phil Foden’s free-kick to calm City’s worries.

Early in the second half, Nathan Ake converted Ruben Dias’ knockdown as the visitors struck again from a set piece.

Gabriel Jesus continued his superb scoring streak with a thunderous finish 12 minutes from time, before Fernandinho completed the scoring in injury time.

Guardiola stated, “It’s not about the pressure — it’s simple.”

“To be champions, we must win all of our games. Liverpool will be champions if we don’t.”

Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s leading scorer, were all rested from the start by Jurgen Klopp.

They still had far too much for one of the league’s best teams.

With the home side pleading for a free kick in vain, Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota combined to feed Keita, who stepped inside before sending the ball past the helpless Martin Dubravka in the 19th minute.

Sadio Mane and Jota missed chances for the Reds, who survived a late scare when Alisson Becker saved from Bruno Guimaraes.

Klopp praised his team’ ability to put up a winning performance despite so many changes as they pursue sporting immortality in a historic quadruple.

Klopp, who had expressed his displeasure at being given a midday kick-off just three days after facing Villarreal, stated, “I thought it was a top-class game in incredibly tough circumstances.”

“That is why I am overjoyed. You want to win football games, and you deserve to win in the best case scenario. We gave it our all today against a hot squad in a wonderful atmosphere.”
