The Raiders put quarterback Colin Kaepernick through his paces last week in order to determine if he’d be a good fit for their preseason squad. The organization is interested in the social crusader for a specific purpose, according to Warren Moon, a Hall of Fame quarterback.

When asked by TMZ Sports, the former Houston Oilers quarterback suggested that head coach Josh McDaniels use Kapernick in a run-quarterback package similar to what he used with Cam Newton and Tim Tebow.

McDaniels knows how to work with quarterbacks like that,” Moon said. “Perhaps he can put together a package of plays that will help the Raiders, perhaps in game-time scenarios.” Moon also believes that Kaepernick’s experience distinguishes him from the rest of the quarterback depth chart. “If you look at the backups they have right now, they don’t have a lot of game experience,” Moon explained. “So, I believe it’s a good idea to bring him in and see what he’s got left.”

Moon also anticipates that other clubs interested in scouting Kaepernick will do so now that the Raiders have broken the seal.

Moon described the NFL as a “copycat league.” “They have a tendency to follow the lead of other teams.”
