Hoosain Ayob, a South African fast bowler who never played died after a long illness. His age was 81.

Ayob was internationally recognised as one of the finest players in the country’s history, but apartheid prevented him from representing it.

He died at a hospital on Saturday morning while visiting family in Port Elizabeth owing to a renal problem.
In his life, the pacer had conquered many obstacles, both personal and professional, which he described in his 2020 book, ‘Crossing Boundaries.’

“Hoosain’s resilience and determination in achieving brilliance were outstanding,” stated legendary batsman Clive Lloyd in the book’s prologue.

Ayob was a key member of the International Cricket Council’s development committee after the United Cricket Board (now Cricket South Africa) was established and South Africa was readmitted to the international fold.

Even in his seventies, Ayob continued to train coaches and travel to Africa, where he spent the last decade of his life spreading cricket.

He inspired thousands of children across Africa to develop a passion for cricket. As a result, he became a popular motivational speaker.
Ayob was a teacher by trade, having worked at a variety of schools throughout the old Transvaal region.

He was writing on a second book, titled ‘My Last Innings,’ to give patients and the general public a glimpse into his emotional, physical, and mental agony as a dialysis patient.
