Former UFC legend Chael Sonnen has encouraged Nate Diaz to face “ideal” opponent Tony Ferguson in his final fight in the UFC after making a new demand to finish his contract.

Since losing to Leon Edwards last year, the American star hasn’t competed, and his contract with the organization only has one fight left on it.

“Now, if Tony was to go to a 170 pounds and I have a magic wand, what do I do with him? Boom. Nate Diaz. Solve the problem right away. That would be a very big and perfect fight,” Sonnen said on Beyond the Fight.

Diaz first demanded that his contract be voided in order to force his exit from the UFC, but he has since changed his mind and demanded that an opponent be found for his farewell fight.

“That would be an interesting fight. That would be a nostalgic fight. Like, that would serve all the boxes for what we wanted to see as fans. And if you like Nate Diaz, and I know that you do, then you have to like Tony Ferguson. But if you like Tony Ferguson, and I know you do, you have to like Nate Diaz. They’re the same guy,” he added.

Ferguson has already lost four straight fights, but he is preparing for a comeback whenever he is able to fight again after a medical suspension.
