Vitality Blast: Shan Masood-led Falcons thrashes Foxes by 70 runs

Derbyshire Falcons registered their first win in the Vitality Blast after thrashing Leicestershire Foxes by 70 runs.

This also marked the first win for Shan Masood as Derbyshire’s skipper.

The Pakistani left-arm opener played a blistering inning of 53 runs and established a partnership with Leus du Plooy, who played an unbeaten 38-run inning.

The Falcons scored 159 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

The Foxes were restricted to 47 for the loss of four in the powerplay. The Falcons kept them under pressure with the falling wickets until the whole team was thrashed at 89.

Falcons’ leg-spinner Mattie McKiernan produced the best figures of 2 for 17.

It is to be noted that Masood was appointed as the skipper of Falcons after his exceptional performance during the County Championship, where he scored 844 runs including two double tons.

Derbyshire will meet the Yorkshire in their next match o May 31. In the past five encounters, Yorkshire has won three matches

Leicestershire are set to go against Yorkshire on May 29.
