Dustin Johnson, a two-time major winner, was dropped by the Royal Bank of Canada after signing a $125 million deal with Greg Norman’s LIV league. Johnson joined RBC after reaching the top of the world rankings in 2018. In 2020, he won the RBC Canadian Open.

Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell was also sponsored by RBC. The company let him go after he, too, turned down the PGA Tour for LIV.

RBC is terminating its sponsorship agreement with professional golfers Dustin Johnson and Graeme McDowell as a result of their decisions to play the LIV Golf Invitational Series opener,” RBC said in a statement. “We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.”

The RBC Heritage Classic, held on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, is sponsored by RBC. The tournament takes place the weekend following the Masters.

Lefty was possibly LIV Golf’s most important signing. The 51-year-old signed a reported $200 million contract. That’s a lot of money.

His commitment to LIV, however, has come at a cost, as have his previous controversial statements about doing business with the Saudis.

After author Alan Shipnuck published statements Mickelson made to him about LIV Golf Investments, which runs the series, and the Saudi government, he lost most of his corporate sponsors, including Callaway, Heineken, KPMG, and Workday.

“KPMG US and Phil Mickelson have mutually agreed to end our sponsorship effective immediately. We wish him the best,” a KPMG spokesperson said in a statement. “KPMG continues to sponsor brand ambassadors on the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour and is the title sponsor of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, a major on the LPGA Tour.”
