Giorgio Chiellini, the legendary Italian defender, will join LAFC this summer after his contract with Juventus ends.

The 37-year-old has spent his entire 22-year Premier League career in Italy, rising through the Livorno youth system before moving to Fiorentina for a year before joining Juventus in 2005. He has been with Juventus since then, winning numerous trophies and awards during his 17-year career.

Chiellini is also a decorated Italian international, having been a member of the squad that advanced to the Euro 2012 final before winning the competition in 2020. His World Cup exploits have been far less successful, with exits from the group stage in 2010 and 2014, as well as failures to qualify for the tournament in 2018 and 2022.

Apart from his World Cup struggles, the ageless defender made 117 appearances for Italy, ranking fourth all-time behind Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, and Paolo Maldini.

Giorgio Chiellini merged LAFC for a variety of reasons

Chiellini is likely to be looking for a new challenge after spending his entire career in Italy with three different clubs.

While Chiellini will not be paid as a top European talent, according to The Athletic, because he will not be given a Designated Player contract and thus will not earn more than the $1.65 million (€1.54m / £1.31m) cap, it is still an opportunity for him to experience a new country and league before calling it quits on his club career.
