Sussex Sharks were unable to match Hampshire Hawks’ 199 on Saturday, June 4, despite Tim Seifert’s undefeated 56-ball century.

As a result, Hampshire won for the first time in the competition after four losses in a row.

In the chase, Seifert batted mostly alone and reached his century with three sixes in the final over.

Sussex had been driven back in the chase early on, losing four wickets for just 61 runs after midway. It was up to Seifert and Delray Rawlins to revive the chase.

Before the latter was run out in the 17th over, they put on a brisk 71-run partnership off just 34 balls. Following that, Seifert received no backup and continued his one-man show, but he couldn’t avoid a 22-run loss.

Hampshire had reached a mammoth 199 thanks to a 124-run opening stand between Captain James Vince and Ben McDermott.

McDermott was the aggressor, striking five sixes in his 60. Vince played a more leisurely hand, scoring 65 off 41 balls.

After laying a foundation, the duo fell in rapid succession, but cameos from Toby Albert and Liam Dawson late in the innings gave Hampshire a major boost.
