Kansas City Sporting Commission is ready to travel  New York for talks with FIFA about the World Cup in 2026.

Kansas City’s city manager said they expect five to seven games and tens of thousands of people. They’ll have more solid answers after next week’s meetings.

“Next week is when we start all of those more official and more targeted conversations about exactly what we’re thinking we are going to get and not get,” Brian Platt said.

“There is potential for teams to be staying here and in other host cities across the country and the region for weeks and months at a time and their fans follow and stay as well.”

He said that Kansas City has a lot of plans and projects to do before it is ready for 2026.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do to build up infrastructure, to expand our capacity and our facilities to handle the types of events that will be occurring to bring the quality of some of our soccer pitches and facilities up to a certain level,” Platt said.

The matches will take place on the grounds of Arrowhead Stadium. Platt stated that the field will need to be modified because it is not enough for world cup.

He also said that they have been discussing the possibility of extending the KC Streetcar to the stadiums.

Peter Vermes, Sporting KC’s manager and sports director, competed in the 1990 World Cup in Italy. He expressed excitement about Kansas City hosting in four years.
