Karim Benzema of Real Madrid has been awarded the Champions League player of the season.

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the final, and the France international, 34, won the championship for the seventh time.

He has 15 goals in 12 Champions League games and is a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or this year.

Vinicius Jr, Benzema’s teammate who scored the game’s only goal, has been named the tournament’s young player of the season.

In the 2021-22 season, the 21-year-old scored four goals and added six assists.

Real midfielder Luka Modric and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was named man of the match in Paris, join the pair on the Champions League squad of the season.

Liverpool, who finished second, has four players in the squad, including defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and midfielder Fabinho.
