PAK vs WI: After improbable West Indian hero Nicholas Pooran took four wickets in the third and final one-day international in Multan on Sunday, allrounder Shadab Khan smashed a career-best 86 to lead Pakistan to 269-9.

When winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan collapsed from 85 without loss to 117-5 after Pooran turned his arm over for only the second time in his 43-match ODI career to collect 4-48.

With Babar Azam’s unusual failure for one, the innings appeared to be unravelling, but Shadab made the most of his bat.

Shadab struck three sixes and four boundaries from 78 balls before getting bowled in the penultimate over due to a 60-minute dust storm that reduced the play to 48 overs-a-side.

In 2018, he bettered his 54 against New Zealand in Wellington.

Pooran came up after Fakhar Zaman (35) and Imam-ul-Haq (62) gave Pakistan a great start, sensing the Multan stadium surface aiding spin.

Pooran, who had never taken more than one wicket in his first-class career, took the wickets of Zaman, Haq, Mohammad Rizwan (11) and Mohammad Haris (nought) in just 25 balls.

In 68 balls, Haq hit seven boundaries and a six for his 14th ODI half-century. He became the second hitter in ODI history to score seven or more fifties in a row.

Former Pakistan great Javed Miandad, who turned 65 on Sunday, held the record for most consecutive ODI fifties with nine, which he achieved in 1987.

After hitting a century and 77 in the first two matches, Azam was bowled leg-before by spinner Hayden Walsh for only one run.

Shadab contributed 84 for the sixth wicket with Khushdil Shah (34) and 40 for the eighth wicket with Mohammad Wasim (six).

With Pakistan dominating the series 2-0, fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani was given his ODI debut, while Hasan Ali was recalled, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf being rested.

In order to bring in Keacy Carty, Jayden Seales, and Keemo Paul, the West Indies left out Alzarri Joseph, Anderson Phillip, and Brandon King.
